Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on how to upgrade my video editing PC because I'm not super knowledgeable about PC parts. I've been shooting in 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 with my Sony FX3, and I've noticed that timeline playback in Premiere Pro has been really slow lately, even while using proxies. While this could be a software issue, I suspect my PC might need some upgrades too.
Here's what I'm currently working with:
* Asus Prime Z690-P Wifi
* Intel i7-12700K
* NVidia GeForce 3060 Ti
* 96GB DDR5 RAM
* 750W power supply
* NVMe drive for my system (Win11 10.0.26100) and a second NVMe for active project files.
I recently upgraded my RAM, thinking it would help with the bottleneck, but it hasn't really made a difference. I'm considering a new processor that supports Quick Sync to handle encoding and decoding more efficiently, but I know that might also require upgrading my motherboard and power supply. I'd appreciate any insights or recommendations. Thanks a ton!

It sounds like you're running into some GPU limitations. Even though you just added more RAM, at 4K resolutions, you're mainly going to be bottle-necked by your GPU. The i7-12700K is still solid for Premiere Pro, and it does support Quick Sync. Honestly, if you're looking to upgrade, consider a newer GPU, something from the 70 class or higher like the 5070 Ti or 5080. Just keep in mind you will need a new power supply if you go that route!
Thanks for the insight! If I upgrade to those GPUs, would my current motherboard handle them without issues, or is it going to bottleneck due to PCIe Gen 4?
