Looking to Build a Linux PC for Light Gaming—Need Advice!

I'm currently using a Mac Mini for everyday tasks, but since my wife is starting to rely on it more, I'm considering building a Linux PC. I want something that can handle some light gaming, especially since the games I'm interested in often aren't available on iOS. I have a bit of experience with Ubuntu from a few years ago, but it's been a while since I've built a PC. I want to keep my budget under $1000 (not including the monitor) since graphics cards can be pricey. I'm curious if I should buy a pre-built system or go the DIY route. The games I enjoy include Stardew Valley (available on iOS) and Tales of the Shire (not available on iOS), plus a few others that I might want to try that are Windows-exclusive. Any helpful tips or guidance would be appreciated! I'm based in Canada.

You might want to consider going with AMD or Intel GPUs, as they tend to have better support on Linux and are also affordable options. While many games are primarily designed for Windows, you can often run them on Linux using tools like Wine or Proton, which let you play many Windows games. Check out protondb.com to see how well specific games run on Linux; it's super useful! If you’re also looking at game compatibility, areweanticheatyet.com can help for popular titles with anti-cheat features.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve heard about Proton before, and it's good to know that even some unsupported games might work.
