Looking to Start Mentoring in My Spare Time – Any Tips?

I've been working full-time at a software company mainly doing software development with C# and .NET. I really enjoy mentoring interns and junior developers, helping them grow and navigate their challenges. I'm now looking to take this passion into my free time, but I'm unsure where to begin. Are there forums or platforms I could use to connect with potential mentees? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There's this platform… I can't recall the name right now, but I'll get back to it!

You can actually mentor interns on melixir.org. They're a curated group, so it's a good way to engage with serious learners. Just join as a contributor and lend a hand!

Hey, can you mentor me? I've been working with .NET and Angular as a full stack dev for about two years now and could definitely use some guidance!

Sure! I’d be happy to help out and share what I can.

You're already on the right track! Since you love mentoring, start small. Share on LinkedIn or with friends that you're open to mentoring. Many early-career developers are looking for guidance, and your post could really connect you with them. You might also explore platforms like MentorCruise for structured mentoring or ADPList, which is free and lets you meet mentees globally. Just focus on a few at a time, and remember, you don’t need to wait until you feel "fully ready". Just dive in!

Consider looking for a local community with youth programs. Mentoring younger people can be very rewarding and impactful. If you enjoy this, getting involved can change lives for the better!
