Looking to Switch from Windows to Linux—Total Newbie Here!

Hey everyone! I'm really feeling thrown off by the end of support for Windows 10 and am considering making the switch to Linux. Here's the thing—I'm not very tech-savvy at all, and the whole process seems daunting. I've got a few questions:

1. Are there any good installation tutorials that cater to someone who is a complete beginner?
2. What Linux distro would you recommend for light gaming (I usually play modded Minecraft and some Steam games) and basic video editing on CapCut? My computer isn't the best, so something that works well on lower spec machines would be ideal.
3. How technical is Linux? I've seen a lot of coding references while researching, but I struggle to grasp coding stuff, so I'm worried I may not be able to adapt very well. I thought it best to ask and hear from those who have been there!

Thanks a lot! Hoping to get away from Windows soon!

If you want a super hassle-free experience, Bazzite is definitely a good option. It's designed to be non-technical and beginner-friendly, especially if you're just getting started with Linux!

That 'coding' stuff you mentioned is mainly about running commands in the terminal, which isn't as scary as it sounds. It's more about giving commands to the computer directly, and you can often just copy-paste them from documentation. Overall, you’ll find it gets easier with practice, and a lot of functionality you rely on in Windows can be replicated in Linux without needing to dig deep into code.

For a Linux distro, I'd recommend trying out Mint with the Xfce edition. It's user-friendly and has a good installation guide you can follow. You can check out the installation tutorial [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd_fvye3ZCA). Plus, coding won't be a big deal; you can actually use most things without getting into it. Just a heads up, there might be some new terminology to learn, but it's usually pretty straightforward!

You might want to start with some basic tutorials on how to install an OS on your computer first. Accessing UEFI can be a bit tricky, but once you get past that, creating a USB and following the instructions isn’t too difficult. As for the technical aspect, Linux can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. If you're just using it for basic tasks and games, you should be fine without diving into heavy coding. Just remember, it's quite different from Windows, so give yourself time to adjust!

I think you'll find some useful resources on the migration page in the Linux4Noobs wiki. They have plenty of tips for transitioning. Just make sure to avoid installing from unknown sources, and always verify your downloads! If you're after a culture similar to Steam, you might also want to consider Bazite Linux—it’s known for being user-friendly for gaming.
