Looking to Upgrade from 5600X: Any Advice?

I recently got a 9070XT, which has really improved my gaming experience. However, I'm noticing that I could use a bit more performance, specifically in terms of 1% lows and an overall 5-10% boost in FPS. Unfortunately, my budget is tight right now, and I'm not ready to shift to an AM5 socket upgrade. I've also been struggling to find any reasonably priced X3D models, with even used ones costing over $300, which I'm not willing to pay. I've considered the 5900X since it has more cache and a better boost speed, but I'm unsure if that's a worthwhile upgrade. Any thoughts or suggestions?

You mentioned the 5900X, but it might not be as beneficial as you think compared to the 5800X. It’s a lot pricier for not much gain, especially since you're gaming at 1440p. If you’ve already spent on GPU and PSU, maybe weigh those costs more carefully before jumping on a CPU upgrade. But hey, you're right to consider your budget if AM5 is out of the question!

Yeah, I get that—playing at 2K makes me hesitate to overspend on a new CPU, especially considering the motherboard and RAM costs involved with AM5. Just trying to balance performance without breaking the bank!

I’d suggest saving up for a better upgrade to AM5 or a newer option. Don't forget, Intel can be a compelling alternative as well. There's no rush if your current setup is working for now!

Honestly, if you're not in a rush to upgrade, I would hold off for a bit. The higher prices for the 5700X and 5800X3D are largely due to their performance being top-notch for AM4 and they're becoming harder to come by since they're no longer in production. You might find better options down the line when the AM5 hype dies down and prices stabilize. Just wait it out if you can!

To be honest, I wouldn't rush into any upgrade. The 5600X still performs really well, and I even compared it with a 9070XT and saw minimal performance difference with a 12600K and DDR5 RAM—maybe only 3-5% improvement. If you primarily play less CPU-intensive games, this upgrade might not justify the costs. Focus on a quality monitor instead; that often makes a more significant impact!

When it comes to gaming, having more cores doesn't necessarily translate to better performance since many games, especially popular ones, only use one or two cores effectively. The difference between the 5600X and the 5900X isn't huge in most cases. Plus, the price difference is significant for only a slight increase in performance, so consider if it's worth it for you.
