Looking to Upgrade from a Gaming Laptop to a PC Build—Any Recommendations?

I'm currently using an Acer Predator Triton 16 gaming laptop equipped with a 4070 GPU and 32GB of RAM, and I've mostly been gaming on my 4K monitor. I'm planning to sell the laptop and transition to a PC build with a budget between $1500 and $2000. I mainly enjoy story-driven games, so I'm looking for suggestions on how to make the most of my budget. Any thoughts on components I should consider?

With your budget, you can definitely score some great components. Aiming for a 7800X3D or 9800X3D with either a 5070TI or a 9070XT would give you a significant upgrade, especially for 4K gaming. If you're willing to search around for deals on used parts, you might even snag a 5080 within that price range, but keep an eye on new vs. used prices too. Also, consider getting a cheaper CPU like the 9600X, freeing up budget for a better GPU, especially since you'll want that graphical power for your games.

Thanks for the input! I usually find it inconvenient to use the laptop while it's plugged into my monitor—it's just hard to get that solid 4K performance without issues. I want to ensure that I’m making a meaningful upgrade.
