Looking to Upgrade My CPU but Struggling with DDR5 Prices

I recently added a 9070XT to my rig that currently has a 10400F CPU and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. However, I noticed that some games haven't shown a performance boost. Should I invest in an LGA 1700 setup or stick with AM4? I'm looking for recommendations on CPUs for either option, remembering that my budget for both a motherboard and CPU is capped at $400. Thanks in advance!

If you're leaning towards AM4, you could snag a 5800X with an AM4 motherboard for under $300. It's a solid choice for a budget upgrade! On the other hand, for LGA1700, you could go with a DDR4 B760 or Z790 motherboard along with a used 12900K. It might stretch your budget a bit, but it's worth it for the performance. A 12600K is a more budget-friendly option if you want to save some cash.

Honestly, I’d suggest you hold off for now and save a bit more. Also, 16GB of DDR4 RAM might not be enough for some modern games; consider getting more RAM before making a CPU upgrade.

Prices for DDR5 are pretty insane right now; it makes more sense to look used if you're upgrading. It’s unnecessary to jump to DDR5 with the current prices. LGA 1700 is technically better than AM4, but if you're going for gaming, you can still get great performance from an AM4 setup.

Have you considered upgrading your monitor instead? If you're gaming at 1080p, moving to a higher resolution or an OLED might give you a better experience for the money.
