Hey everyone! I'm really new to coding and feeling super overwhelmed about what career path to take. I keep going back and forth between full stack development, AI/ML, and cybersecurity. I don't have a specific interest in any of these fields yet, and I'm looking for advice on which path might be the most future-proof. Should I try out a bit of everything before I decide, or would that just waste a lot of time? What do you all think I should focus on learning?

I totally understand what you're going through! When I started out, I was torn between AI, backend, and mobile development. All the fields you mentioned are solid choices and have a bright future. My suggestion is to dive into research for each area. AI/ML involves heavy data science, which requires a lot of math—if that doesn't excite you, you might skip it. Same for mobile development. Personally, I found my passion in backend development, but it’s about exploring what clicks for you! Keep in mind, you can always switch paths later on—there’s no rush.
It's completely normal to feel lost in the beginning! Just pick one path, like full stack development, and begin your learning journey. You’ll get clearer on your preferences as you progress. Plus, remember that if you later find you want to switch to AI or cybersecurity, you can totally do that anytime. Just start somewhere!
Starting out, I think going for full-stack development could be a great option. It allows you to build real projects quickly and gives you a broad understanding of software development. After a few months, you’ll get a better sense of what excites you. It's all about expanding your skills first before narrowing down your focus, which is key to becoming a T-shaped engineer. Definitely consider it!
From what I've seen, cybersecurity is a fantastic option for future-proofing your career. While development roles are important, cybersecurity skills seem to be increasingly in demand. If you’re more interested in the math and stats side of things, AI and ML can be great too, but just be aware that they require a solid foundation in data science. My advice? Follow your passion—what intrigues you the most will keep you motivated in the long run. If you end up pivoting later, you’re just adding to your skill set, not wasting time!
