Making the Jump from Windows to Linux: Which Distro Should I Choose?

I'm at a crossroads where I'm ready to transition from Windows to Linux after falling in love with the terminal while using a VM with Xubuntu. I'm not really fixed on which specific area of IT I will dive into, but I'm curious about finding a suitable Linux distribution. I enjoy using office applications and gaming, and I'm considering whether I should dual boot since I have one 256GB disk for Windows and a 1TB disk for Linux. Additionally, how secure is it to have both operating systems on separate partitions? Would a security issue on one affect the other?

In my opinion, dual booting can get complicated and might not be worth the hassle. Consider using a VM instead, or even try out Linux on a Raspberry Pi. For basic command-line practice while in Windows, tools like Cygwin could be really helpful.

If you're looking for a user-friendly distro, I'd suggest going with Linux Mint. It's a great starting point for beginners. Try installing it on a VM first to get the hang of it before committing to a dual boot setup.

It's totally fine to develop on Windows as well. While transitioning to Linux can be beneficial, don’t feel pressured. Just make sure you understand how much disk space Windows lets you deallocate for Linux. It can be tricky sometimes!
