I just started my role as an IT Manager at a small company with about 100 employees. Currently, we're using QuickBooks on-premises for accounting, but as the company file keeps growing (it's now at 2.6 GB), I know we need to make a switch. Our head accountant is very familiar with QuickBooks, but I'm concerned that QuickBooks Online isn't a good fit for us. Right now, we have the software on a local server, which staff access via an RDS server. I'm also looking to make our infrastructure serverless in the future since the server is mainly used for QuickBooks and file storage. I'm not an accounting expert, and my previous IT role didn't involve migrating from QuickBooks to other products like Sage. If the company decides to switch, I'll need to provide some guidance. Can anyone suggest alternatives for QuickBooks? Also, if switching isn't an immediate option, what hosting solutions are others using for QuickBooks? I'm thinking about services like Azure Desktop through Nerdio.

Definitely consult with your accountant—either internal or an external one. You want to avoid any issues that might arise from a bad accounting tool switch, especially since you're new to the organization. Getting insights from someone who's been in the field can give you a better perspective on what might work for your business.
Totally agree. I'll make it clear that I'm handling the technical side, but I want to be informed about the finance aspects too. If we decide to switch, I think we should definitely consider engaging a consultant.
