Hey folks! I need some guidance on a technical issue I'm facing. I'm a freelancer currently working with a major corporation. My job involves receiving and sending files, primarily PDFs and documents, via their FTP server (ftp.[COMPANY].com). Recently, my antivirus software (Avast) has begun blocking access to the FTP site and giving me a warning about a potential threat labeled as "Script:SNH-gen [Trj]." This issue has arisen on multiple devices, across different browsers, and even with VPNs. My contacts at the company said their IT department ran tests and found no issues, suggesting I just disable my antivirus to get through. However, I really feel uneasy about that and want to know if I'm justified in my concerns. I've confirmed that the emails I receive are legitimate, but around this time, Gmail started marking messages from one of their PMs as potentially dangerous. Can someone shed light on what's going on here? Is there more info I should add? Thanks!

Definitely do not disable your antivirus just because they say so! It’s a big red flag if their IT team isn't taking security seriously. They might have internal issues that they’re not addressing properly. Always better to be safe than sorry. Just because they claim it's fine doesn't mean it is, especially with the warnings you're getting.
Have they considered switching to SFTP instead of regular FTP? SFTP is much more secure. You might want to ask them about it if you haven’t already.
I have no idea how to tell if it’s SFTP! Could you help me figure that out?

Agreed! It’s alarming how casually they suggested disabling your antivirus. That’s a huge security risk.
