My Boss’s New Surface Laptop Keeps Freezing – Could Adult Sites Be the Cause?

Hey everyone,

I'm in a bit of a bind and could use some help. My boss recently bought a Surface Laptop for Business, which is a pretty powerful machine—it's got an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. He started having issues where the laptop freezes whenever he tries to run multiple applications, and to fix it, he has to power it off and on again. After some digging, I found out he was running several tabs with videos open at the same time.

I tested it myself by opening multiple applications and even 12 YouTube videos, but it worked like a charm for me. Since my boss is going on a work trip soon and needs a reliable laptop, I had Microsoft send a replacement, but the same freezing issue happened again after he started using it.

This time, it turns out that the videos he's watching are from adult-themed sites, not YouTube. He claims he's run these without issues on his older Surface and Dell laptops.

Given that everything was set up the same way, with the same antivirus and applications, could there be something about the new Surface that might block or hinder performance with these types of sites? He's been using Chrome, Edge, and Firefox without success, so I doubt it's a browser-related problem.

Thanks for any insights, but I'd prefer not to test the sites myself—so awkward!

If you can’t replicate the issue, ask your boss to record a video of it happening. Just make sure he captures how he’s powering it down, too. Sometimes the details matter a lot more than it seems!

Good idea! That might provide some clues we can work with!

This sounds like a memory issue due to the low power CPU in the Surface. It could choke with too many tabs. Suggest your boss save that for home and use the laptop for work-related tasks only. He might be pushing it too far with his browsing habits!

Agreed! It could really impact his productivity if he keeps pushing the machine to its limits like that.

It’s possible that the new Surface has some enhanced security features that might be throttling or managing how adult sites operate. Modern Windows systems can be pretty restrictive on certain content. Perhaps check if anything is set in the Windows Firewall or any other security settings that could be affecting performance. Just a thought!

Exactly! Sometimes security settings can be overly aggressive, especially on new hardware. It might not even be specific to those sites but rather how the laptop is handling multiple video streams.

Why is your boss even watching adult videos on a work device? That seems highly inappropriate and could cause issues down the line! Maybe some HR intervention is needed. Just saying!

I know, right? It's a family business though; my boss is my brother. I just find it funny and awkward!
