My Computer Crashes with a Black Screen When Gaming – Help!

I've been experiencing a frustrating issue since yesterday. Whenever I play a game, my computer freezes after a while. I hear glitchy, robotic noises, and then the screen goes black with no signal on my monitor. The only way to get my computer to boot again is to reseat the GPU. I've already tried removing the CMOS battery, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and even repasting the thermal paste on my GPU. I also checked the PSU cables and noticed that pin 3 on the PCIe 6-pin connector looks melted. I'm wondering if that might be related to my crashes. Here are my specs: RX 5700 XT, Thermal Take 600W Smart PSU, 24GB of DDR4 RAM, and a Ryzen 5 5500. Any advice would be appreciated!

A melted pin is definitely a serious problem to consider! That’s not something to brush off. The Thermal Take SMART PSUs have mixed reviews, so it might be worth looking into that too. If your GPU connector is damaged, it could lead to instability or crashes under load. You should definitely think about replacing that connector or even the PSU itself just to be safe.

You should definitely check on that melted pin. Even if the GPU pins seem fine, that damage can cause power issues and lead to your crashes. Personally, I’d recommend getting the PSU checked or replaced if possible. Thermal performance is also crucial, so regular maintenance on your thermal paste and checking your cooling setup can help prevent those freezes.
