My Corsair PSU Caught Fire! What Went Wrong?

Last night, my brand new PSU made some loud popping noises and briefly caught fire. This scary incident happened within 10 seconds before I swiftly unplugged the surge protector from the wall. I had just completed my PC build about two weeks ago, and everything was working fine until now. I've been keeping a close watch on the power draw and my GPU has never gone above 405w, so I wasn't expecting any issues. What might have caused this? Is it likely my PSU was defective, or could I have made a mistake during the build? I'm also worried about the chance that my other components got damaged in the process. Here are my specs: PSU model is Corsair RM1000e (2025), GPU is Sapphire Nitro 7900XTX, CPU is 7800X3D, and my motherboard is GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite ATX.

It sounds like you might have a faulty PSU. These things can happen, unfortunately. I’d recommend contacting Corsair about your warranty and get a replacement. Just make sure you test everything out once you have a new PSU installed to see if there's any damage.

Agreed! Definitely check your other parts after you get the new PSU. It's better to be cautious.

I'd recommend getting an RMA for your PSU. While that's being processed, you can carefully inspect your motherboard and GPU for any visible damage. But usually, if the PSU does its job well, other parts should be okay.

I actually opened a ticket with Corsair already. I checked all the connections, and everything looked good. It was pretty chill earlier—even just watching YouTube!
