My CPU is Overheating During Gaming – What Can I Do?

I've built a PC that keeps overheating when I'm playing demanding games like Outer Wilds, but it performs well for GPU-heavy tasks like Blender rendering and benchmarking. I modified the case fan setup; I switched the stock CPU fan to be an intake, and the AK620s are also set as intakes at the front. A 360mm AIO cooler won't fit because of space constraints from the DvD drive, and 240mm doesn't fit either. I'm trying to figure out how to keep my CPU cool without spending more than $50CAD. Also, I'd prefer components with minimal lighting. Any suggestions?

You should definitely reconsider your cooler choice. With a proper one, I managed to keep my Ryzen 5600 well under 76°C even under load. Also, don't forget about your RAM speeds; faster RAM can help too, depending on how it’s set up in your system.

It sounds like you might have some user error going on. Make sure you installed the CPU cooler properly. Check for things like removing the plastic cover, applying thermal paste, or using the right mounting hardware. Something isn’t right if it's overheating, so double-check those details. If those are all good, you may need to consider a better cooler altogether.

How's your thermal paste situation? That can make a huge difference. Also, do you have an exhaust fan to help push hot air out? Make sure your CPU fans are plugged in too. Lastly, check your BIOS settings; if the fans are on 'silent' mode, they might not be running as efficiently as they should. Adjusting that might help!

Right! I had a similar setup with Deepcool fans, and even on silent mode, they did a decent job keeping my temps in check. Just make sure the cooler's mounted properly first!

I noticed your PCPartPicker link seems incorrect. You might want to update it. Also, consider laying out your build’s specs clearly as a table or permalink for better help. But from what I gather, there seems to be a fundamental issue with your setup, like airflow or cooling because the AK620 should handle your CPU if everything is functioning properly.
