Hey everyone, I'm having a frustrating issue with my Windows 10 setup. After my internet went haywire, most of my desktop icons just vanished! I've tried some troubleshooting suggestions, but nothing seems to work. My properties button isn't functioning either, which makes things even worse. I'm really desperate for solutions! Unfortunately, I can't share a screenshot of my screen right now, but I can describe that icons like my shutdown shortcut have disappeared completely—it's not even a transparent icon or anything!

Just a heads-up, rebuilding the icon cache might help. You could try deleting the iconcache files like iconcache_16.db and iconcache_32.db. It didn't work for me, but it's worth a shot!
Have you tried running an anti-malware scan? I found a similar issue online and there were some solutions mentioned that you might not have seen before. Maybe check out this post for additional ideas!
Looks like you ran a complete system analysis with Bitdefender and found nothing. That's good news on one hand! But if you're still having issues, did you see this video? A lot of people said it worked for them when they had a similar problem. The pinned comment might have some useful tips too!
Here's a solution that worked for me: press Windows + R, type 'regedit', and navigate to ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerShell Icons. Create a new string value named 29 and set its value to %windir%System32shell32.dll,-50. Sounds like dark magic, but it actually did the trick for me!
Thanks for the tip! I'll check out that video. Hopefully, it has the solution I need.
