I've been using my hard drive all semester, but after a small drop last night, it stopped working. I was tired and when I closed my laptop, it fell onto the carpet. Since then, it's been beeping and won't show up on my computer anymore. The beeping has slowed down, but I still can't detect it. Is there anything I can do to salvage it, or is it completely done for?

You could take it to a data recovery service, but that means sending it off somewhere. Unfortunately, using software isn't going to help here. Best of luck!
If your hard drive is actually an HDD, it might be toast due to physical damage from the fall. If it’s an SSD, there’s a chance that the problem might be with the cable or connector instead, so you might have a shot at recovering your data.
When a drive falls, it can knock the heads off the platter. The beeping sound is usually the actuator trying to read the data. To open it up safely, you’d need a clean environment, which is why relying on professionals might be the best route if your data is important. Just a heads up, it can be pretty expensive!

It’s definitely an HDD.
