Hey everyone! I recently purchased an IDE to SATA adapter but it seems to be a dud. I've tried connecting it to my Gigabyte Z590 GAMING X motherboard, which supposedly supports hot plugging, but nothing happens in either Arch Linux or Windows 11. If I connect it while the computer's running, it doesn't recognize my IDE DVD drive. If I connect it before booting, my system just freezes—no access to BIOS or GRUB. I'm hesitant to just toss it since this is my second adapter. Any troubleshooting advice?

Did you notice if the LED on the adapter lights up after you attempt to hot plug? That might indicate if it’s still functioning or if you potentially fried it.
First things first, check if the power cable is connected properly. Sometimes that’s all it takes. If that’s good and it’s still not working, there might be a deeper issue with the adapter or the drive itself.
Keep in mind that IDE isn’t designed for hot plugging, which might have caused some damage when you tried it. You could try using a USB to IDE adapter instead; they handle hot plugging better and might save you some headaches.
It’s possible that your drive is causing the issue if it’s got something on it that isn’t playing nice during boot. You might want to test it with another system to see if the problem persists.
I’ve already tried a USB to IDE adapter and it didn’t work either, plus the freezing issue happened when I connected it normally.
