My Laptop Won’t Power On After M.2 SSD Swap—Help Needed!

Hey everyone, I need some assistance here. I recently cloned my old 500GB M.2 SSD to a new 1TB SSD, but now my laptop (MSI Sword 15) won't turn on at all. There are no fan noises, no LED lights—nothing. I tried putting the old SSD back in, but it still won't power up. I'm usually pretty good at opening up my laptop, and I've never run into a problem like this before. I checked the outside and didn't see any signs of damage, and everything with the thermal paste seems to be fine too.

Last time I used it, I exited the BIOS normally. The laptop wasn't booting, so I shut it down using the power button, which seems to be when the issue started. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks in advance!

I’d suggest starting with a CMOS reset. It resets your BIOS settings to default, so be sure to check how to do that specifically for laptops! Just a heads up, any custom settings you had before will be lost. 🙂

Alright, I’ll look into that. I’m not sure if it’s a hardware issue or something with the BIOS.

Could you share some pictures of the motherboard? You might have missed reconnecting something like the battery.

It’s possible you might’ve accidentally disconnected something during the swap. Did you take off the CPU heatsink to check the thermal paste? Sounds like you had to dismantle quite a bit! Just double-check that everything is reconnected properly.

Yeah, I looked at the thermal paste for both the graphics card and processor, and everything seems fine. The M.2 port is pretty accessible at the top of the laptop.
