My New iPhone 17 Pro Has Serious Battery Problems – What Can I Do?

I've had my iPhone 17 Pro for two months now, running the latest iOS (26.3) as Apple suggested. The battery drains to 17% right after waking up from a 100% charge, and the phone overheats after just 30 minutes of browsing Chrome. This seems completely abnormal to me, especially since my friend's iPhone 15 remains at 90% under similar usage. I've already visited the Genius Bar twice. In the first appointment, they advised me to disable automatic background refresh, but that didn't help. At the second appointment, they ran a diagnostics test that showed the battery is healthy, telling me there's nothing they can do. I find it unbelievable that a nearly $1600 phone receives no support when it's almost brand new. Does anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting this problem?

This definitely sounds like a software hiccup rather than a hardware issue. I had a similar problem where one of my email accounts drained my battery despite being set to fetch. I had to delete and re-add all my email accounts on my phone to fix it, which was annoying but worked! It might be worth a shot to see if an app or account is messing things up.

Yup, I experienced something similar! It took me a long time to figure out an app was the culprit draining my battery.

I dealt with something similar after getting my iPhone 17 Pro. A rogue app was trying to back up a ton of photos from iCloud, causing all sorts of issues! Just a thought - have you checked if you're using any cloud services that might be syncing a lot of data?

It sounds like something is seriously stressing your processor, leading to both battery drain and overheating. This could be due to a specific app misbehaving, often apps like Spotify or Facebook can hog resources. Poor cell reception can also cause your battery to drain quickly as your phone works harder to keep a signal. You might want to consider restoring your device and setting it up as new without any backups, which could help eliminate the problematic apps. Let me know if that works for you!

I totally get your frustration! Your best bet might be to wipe your phone completely and start fresh. Manually save your essential data back to iCloud and skip restoring from your last backup. Sometimes corrupted apps or settings can stick around, and a clean start helps. If you're not getting thermal warnings, your phone isn't technically 'overheating,' just warmer than usual.

Did you go through the restore and setup process? It's a hassle, but it can solve many underlying software issues.
