My New SSD Isn’t Being Recognized by My Computer – What Should I Check?

I've been running low on storage lately, so I decided to add a new SSD to my desktop, which has three slots for SSDs (with one being the primary). I've tried installing the SSD in all the available slots, but the computer won't recognize it at all. I've checked BIOS and disk management, but it doesn't show up anywhere. Any advice on what I might be missing?

Have you made sure that your BIOS settings are allowing the NVMe ports? Sometimes if it’s set to RAID instead of AHCI, that can cause issues with detection. Look into that in the BIOS settings.

Check your motherboard's PCIe lane support. It’s possible that all the lanes are being used up. Also, some motherboards have M.2 slots that are limited to SATA rather than NVMe. If you have an older board, that could be the issue, too!

First off, is your new SSD an NVMe or SATA? If it's NVMe, make sure those ports are enabled in the BIOS. Sometimes, the PCIE lanes can get tricky, especially if you have multiple devices connected. Let us know what motherboard you have so we can help more specifically!

Just to double-check, are you connecting both the data and power cables to the SSD? If it's an M.2 drive, you shouldn’t need extra cables, but it’s good to ensure everything is seated properly.
