I've been experiencing black screen issues with my PC while playing a game called Where Winds Meet for the past couple of days. Initially, I thought it was a RAM problem, so I removed and reseated the RAM, which seemed to fix it temporarily. However, the issue resurfaced, and even when I switched back to my old RAM, the problem continued. I've reset my BIOS and I'm planning to reapply thermal paste to the CPU, but I'm starting to wonder if this might actually be related to the GPU. The black screens only occur while I'm gaming, with Where Winds Meet being the worst offender. It typically happens right at startup or during the loading screen rather than after I'm playing for a while. One important detail is that my PC remains on when the displays go off; it doesn't shut down completely. Here are my specs: MSI Mag A1000G PSU (1000w gold), MSI 4090 Suprim X GPU, AMD 9800X3D CPU, X870E motherboard, Kraken Z73 AIO cooler, and 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM.

Definitely check the Event Viewer! Also, when the black screen happens, do you lose all sound, or can you still hear your friends on Discord for a bit? If audio cuts off immediately, it could indicate a different kind of issue. You mentioned having to reboot manually, so that’s something to keep tabs on too.
I suspect it could be a PSU issue too, especially if it's been in use for several years. The GPU is relatively new, but perhaps the PSU isn’t supplying consistent power. Have you checked your Event Viewer for any critical or error messages around the times the black screens happen? This could give more insight into what's going wrong.
Good idea! I've heard about the Event Viewer but haven’t used it yet. I’ll check for errors after work.
First things first, make sure your display cables are connected to the GPU and not the motherboard. A wrong connection can sometimes lead to issues like this. If everything's connected correctly, it might be worth checking if your PSU is having problems. Since you mentioned it’s a gold-rated 1000w, it should normally handle things, but proper functionality is key!
Thanks for the tip! I'll double-check the connections. It would be strange if it was a cable issue, but I guess it's worth ruling that out.

Yeah, the game audio stops immediately, but I can still talk to my friends for a short while before that cuts off too. It’s really frustrating!
