I've had my PC for about three years, and it used to freeze about once a week, but I could just restart it and move on. Now, it's freezing every 15 minutes, which makes it pretty much unusable. When it freezes, the screen locks up, the monitor goes into 'stand by' mode because it loses signal, but the fans keep running. It's like getting a screenshot of what's on the screen.
This started when I was using Windows, but even after doing a fresh install, it didn't help. I also tried dual-booting Linux Mint, and it froze there too. On my previous Windows install, I noticed a log in the reliability monitor saying 'Microsoft Game Input reconfiguration' every time it froze, but that hasn't shown up now. I suspected the CPU was overheating (it hit >80°C while playing games), but the freezes occur even without any load, such as when I was transferring files on Linux.
Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: XLZ X99Z-V500
- CPU: Intel Xeon E5 2620v3
- GPU: Radeon RX580
- RAM: 2x8GB DDR4
Fun fact: I had to finish this on my phone because the PC froze two times right after rebooting (even on Linux). Any help would be super appreciated; this is really annoying!

It sounds like your PC is struggling! First off, check whether you're using an SSD or an HDD. Either way, make sure to check the condition. Have you run a memory test, like Memtest? Also, try resetting your BIOS to default settings, and experiment with enabling or disabling XMP in the BIOS settings—sometimes that can make a difference.
I have a 500GB SSD in there. I did the memory check in Windows already, and it showed no issues. I couldn't find XMP in the BIOS, but I'll try resetting the BIOS as you suggested. Thanks for the tip!
