My PC is Being Controlled Remotely – What Should I Do?

I need help! It seems like my PC is being remotely controlled; I notice that it's typing in Notepad and when I access the Windows menu, it registers those inputs too. Just to clarify, I don't use a wireless keyboard or mouse, and I live alone, so there shouldn't be anyone else messing with it. What steps can I take to fix this?

If you're up for it, consider reinstalling Windows. You can use a USB flash drive for that. Alternatively, if you want to dive deeper, check the startup tasks in Task Manager to see if anything suspicious is there.

Good point! Make sure you have backups of essential data before you proceed with reinstalling.

First things first, disconnect your PC from the internet. Unplug the Ethernet cable or disable your Wi-Fi connection to prevent any remote access while you troubleshoot.

If a full reinstall sounds like too much, you could also create a new Windows install flash drive and go from there. Sometimes a fresh start is the easiest fix!

Just out of curiosity, what kind of things is it typing? If it’s gibberish, unplug your keyboard to see if it continues. If it does, that could indicate a serious issue that you should follow up on with the suggested steps.

It's wise to take immediate security measures. Change your passwords, enable two-factor authentication on your accounts, remove any unknown devices, and consider using a password manager. This ensures that your accounts stay secure.
