My PC is slowing down after adding new RAM, what could be wrong?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some guidance here. I have a PC that originally had 16 GB of RAM (2 sticks of 8 GB each). I recently added another 16 GB (the same configuration of 2x8 GB). Ever since I did that, my CPU usage spikes to 100% for a few moments whenever I boot up or open any application or even a browser. It takes a bit for everything to go back to normal, making my PC feel super sluggish during that time. I'm not sure why this change happened considering my PC was running perfectly before. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

First off, check if your new RAM is DDR4 or DDR5. Also, confirm that you installed the RAM sticks in the correct paired slots. Usually, for most motherboards, it's best to put them in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. Have you accessed the BIOS to ensure your RAM timings are set correctly? Lastly, make sure your CPU can manage 4 RAM slots because not all CPUs support that, especially at higher speeds.

Thanks for the tips! Yes, I double-checked and it's DDR4, and I’ve confirmed I used the correct slots. I even tried booting with just the original 16 GB to see if the new ones were causing the slowdown but the issues persist. I've also updated the BIOS, but nothing seems to solve it.

Sounds frustrating! Make sure you’ve properly seated the RAM sticks; sometimes it just takes a firm push to secure them in place. If that checks out, you might want to look into whether your power supply is sufficient for the new configuration, as it could affect performance. Also, have you considered running a memory test? There might be compatibility issues or faulty RAM.

I appreciate the help! I’ll give that a shot. I’ll check the RAM seating again and run a memory test to rule out any issues. My power supply should be fine, but I’ll look into that too.
