My PC Keeps Crashing and Apps Won’t Open—What Should I Do?

I'm having serious issues with my PC. When I start it, I often see an error message saying it ran into a problem. I usually have to turn it off and on a few times before it actually boots up. Now, it's gotten worse—"This PC" and "File Explorer" won't open at all. When I try, the taskbar disappears for a few seconds before a black flash occurs, and then everything goes back to normal, but the apps don't open. I've run the scannow and DISM commands in CMD; they report that issues were fixed, but nothing changes. I even updated my Nvidia GPU driver, and it still hasn't helped. I have some pending Windows updates, but whenever I try to install them, the update fails midway through, causing the system to roll back. The Event Viewer logs after trying to open File Explorer mention an issue with explorer.exe. What are my options?

Have you tried doing an in-place repair upgrade? You’d need to download the latest Windows 11 ISO, mount it, and run the setup. Just make sure you’ve backed up anything important first! It’s a pretty straightforward process, and it keeps your files and apps intact while fixing system issues. After that, you should check for updates again and see if they install without any hiccups.

Thanks for the step-by-step! That really helps clear things up.

Great advice! I’ll look into that process and see if it helps.

It sounds like you might want to back up your most important data while you still can. If your PC is still sort of working, try getting a bootable USB with Windows on it and plan for a clean install. Doing a fresh install might clear up whatever issues you’re facing. But remember, always back up first just in case!

I can’t believe this is happening to a one-year-old PC! What do you think went wrong?

Sounds like a slow deterioration! But yeah, a clean installation could really be the best way to go.
