My PC Keeps Crashing While Gaming – Need Help!

Hey everyone, I'm struggling with an annoying issue on my computer that's been going on for over six months now. Whenever I try to play games—especially new ones or ones I haven't touched in a while—the system crashes randomly. It can be just a few minutes in, or I might get an hour before it happens.

Here's what I'm working with:
- GPU: RX 7600 XT
- CPU: i5-12400F
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B760 Gaming X AX
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB
- SSD: TeamGroup MP44L
- Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5
- PSU: Corsair RM750e

The crash manifests in a few ways: sometimes the screen freezes with stuttering audio, sometimes it freezes but audio continues briefly before also glitching, and occasionally the screen just goes black. The only way to recover is by force shutting down the PC.

I've tried a bunch of things, like propping up my GPU (which was sagging a bit), checking cable connections, adding more cooling fans, and monitoring temperatures (CPU 40°C, GPU 56°C) to see if overheating is the issue. I even reinstalled the AMD software and updated Windows 11—nothing worked. I've also turned off the RAM's XMP profile and toggled C-state for my CPU, but no luck.

I've noticed these crashes happen mostly in games like Dead By Daylight, Red Dead Redemption 2, and R.E.P.O., but they used to occur on Overwatch 2 and Plants vs. Zombies GW2 too, though that's stopped. I'm beginning to suspect it might be the PSU, but I don't want to shell out $80+ if that's not the problem. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you updated your BIOS and all drivers from the motherboard’s site? Also, run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool by searching ‘memory’ in the Start menu. CrystalDiskInfo is a great tool to check the SSD’s health. Try to catch any errors—if you see anything other than a kernel power error in the Reliability History, that might indicate an issue. Has your computer crashed like this since you built it, or did this start recently?

I've had my computer since September last year, and it worked fine until now. Appreciate the suggestions, I'll try them all out!

Hey, check the Event Viewer! It logs errors that occur during your crashes, so you can see what’s causing the problem. It might give you a clearer picture of what’s going wrong.

If your power supply is in good shape, that’s a good sign! But for troubleshooting, you could try underclocking your GPU. The RX 7600 XT typically draws about 42 amps, while your Corsair PSU can handle 62 amps, so there's some headroom there. You can use MSI Afterburner to do the underclocking, and it’s not too complicated. Good luck!

I’ll have to try it. Appreciate the comment!
