My PC keeps shutting down – any long-term fixes for the 24-pin cable issue?

I've been dealing with a frustrating problem on my 7-year-old PC. It started shutting down randomly, and I realized that the only way to temporarily fix it is by messing with the 24-pin cable. When I built this rig in 2018, I noticed the cable didn't seem to connect properly, which worried me. Now, every few months, my PC goes into a state I call 'semi-on' where all the lights and fans stop but the components seem to be working, as I can still hear it. I can power it down completely by holding the button, but nothing shows on the screen. I've unplugged and re-plugged the cable, but that's just a band-aid. Has anyone else faced this issue and how did you resolve it?

Have you thought of replacing the power supply unit (PSU) or the motherboard? Those can often cause such issues. Also, make sure you're checking the condition of the cable connectors since sometimes they get worn out. There's a clip on the side of the plug – ensure it clicks securely in place when you connect it. If it's not latching properly, that could be your problem.

I've moved a lot, so I don't think it’s an external power issue. The clip does click when I plug it in. Could it still be a sign of needing new parts?
