My PC Keeps Shutting Down While Playing Certain Games – What’s Going On?

I've been having some frustrating issues with my pre-built PC from TechFast. It shuts down completely when I'm playing demanding games like Marvel Rivals, Valorant, and Phasmophobia after running fine for about 15-30 minutes. The weird part is, it works just fine for casual browsing, using Discord, or playing lightweight games like Traveller's Rest. I bought the PC a year and a half ago and I've been struggling with this issue for months now.

I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting on my own: reseated the RAM and GPU, cleared the CMOS, cleaned out the dust, reinstalled my drivers using DDU, and even swapped out the PSU for a new one. I had an IT guy come over who said everything seems fine with the hardware and advised me to keep an eye on my system temperatures after making some BIOS changes and running stress tests. Still, I'm at a total loss about what's causing the shutdowns. Here are my specs for reference: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F processor, RX 7800XT graphics card, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and so on. Any thoughts?

I've faced similar shutdowns, and what helped me was limiting the frame rate in AMD Adrenalin to around 100 fps. If you don't set a limit, your PC might push to run at crazy high fps, which stresses the GPU unnecessarily and could lead to driver errors. It's worth a shot!

Exactly! The games you're playing are easy to run, but without limits, they could be aiming for extremely high fps, and most monitors can’t even display that. Limiting will ease the load.

Why don't you consider taking it back to the pre-built place? They might have a good service policy and could help you troubleshoot or even fix the issue for you. Have you checked if the power supply in your home is stable? Sometimes, that can affect your PC too.

It sounds like your PSU might be having issues, but you mentioned you replaced it with a quality unit, so that's good. Have you tried running a 3DMark stress test or something like Prime95 and FurMark together to really challenge your system? If those tests go smoothly, the issue could be more related to drivers or perhaps even the games themselves. You might also want to do a clean reinstall of Windows to rule out any software conflicts. Also, check that your RAM is stable with a tool like OCCT and consider disabling EXPO in the BIOS, just to see if that helps.

Yeah, always double-check that your PSU connections are snug on both the GPU and the motherboard. Any gaps there could definitely cause issues.
