My PC Tower Fell Off the Desk—Is My SSD Safe?

So, here's the deal: my cat was sleeping on the desk between my monitor and the PC tower, and suddenly, something scared him. Next thing I know, the tower is on the floor! I picked it up, turned it on, and everything seemed to work fine at first. I browsed the web for a bit without issues, but then I started a game and my PC began freezing occasionally. I checked Task Manager and while the RAM and CPU looked fine, the SSD was at 100% usage most of the time, only dropping to 0 or 1% for lighter tasks. I even tried reseating the RAM, thinking that might help. My SSD is a 1TB Kingston SA400S37960G. Now, I have a few questions: 1) Could this fall have damaged the SSD in a way that it's still operational but limited? 2) How can I confirm if it's actually the SSD causing issues and not something else? 3) If it's damaged, do I just replace it and toss the old one, or could the faulty SSD be useful for anything?

Yeah, there's a good chance it’s all good. SSDs are pretty rugged, but you can still check with utilities to be sure. If anything’s wrong, just swap it out.

You can use a tool like CrystalDisk to check the health of your SSD. That's really the best way to get insight into what's going on. As for your SSD, if it turns out it’s damaged, then unfortunately, yes—you’ll want to replace it and toss the old one. In my experience, a damaged SSD usually stops working entirely rather than being partially functional! Also, did you put that tower back on the desk after or leave it on the floor this time?

Most likely, your SSD is just fine. It should handle a fall without any problems since it’s solid-state and has no moving parts.
