My PC Won’t Power On After My GPU Fell Out, What Should I Do?

I ran into a problem where my GPU fell out of the PCI slot while I was troubleshooting some Ethernet issues. The lock on the PCI slot failed, and now my PC won't power on at all. I'm worried that the motherboard might be fried because there are no signs of power, even if I try to boot the system with nothing plugged in, including the GPU. Any ideas on what might have happened or what I can do?

It sounds like you might need to try booting the system without the GPU installed. Make sure everything is properly connected and seated before doing that. Sometimes a simple reset is all it takes to get things going again!

You probably don’t have an integrated GPU on that AMD board, do you? That makes troubleshooting a bit trickier since you can't test without the GPU. If you have another GPU or someone to borrow from, that could help out a lot.

I’m curious about how the PCI locking tab broke and why the GPU wasn’t properly secured. It’s usually important to screw it in to prevent sag. If you’re worried about the gravity on the GPU, maybe lay the PC flat until you can get everything sorted out.
