My PC Won’t Shut Down Properly—Help Needed!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind here. I upgraded my PC from a Ryzen 3600 to a Ryzen 5900X, and now my computer refuses to shut down completely. Instead, I have to long press the shutdown button, which is really worrying me since I have a lot of work due in two days. I'm worried I might damage my computer if this keeps happening!

Here are my specs: MSI B550 Tomahawk, a new 750W Coolermaster power supply, RTX 3080, 32 GB RAM, and an AIO cooler. My friend suggested checking the temperatures, and they seemed normal. It did shut down properly before the upgrade, so I'm really confused. I'm quite far from my technician, so I may not get to them until next week. Any help would be appreciated!

Have you checked if your power settings in Windows are configured properly? Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Power & sleep' and review your settings. Make sure there's nothing preventing your PC from shutting down the way it should.

It sounds like your PC might be going into sleep mode instead of shutting down completely. Try this: open the Control Panel, go to 'Hardware and Sound,' and then look for 'Power Options.' Click on 'Change what the power buttons do' and make sure it’s set to shut down rather than sleep. That should help!

Thanks for the tip! I tried this, but it still only shuts down the monitor and not the whole PC.

Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve shutdown issues, especially after a hardware upgrade like yours. Check your motherboard's support page for any updates. Also, try resetting your BIOS settings to default—just be careful with any custom configurations you may have set before!

It's possible that some drivers or software are conflicting after the upgrade. Make sure to update all your drivers and consider running a diagnostic tool to see if there are any underlying issues. Sometimes, a simple update can fix things!
