Hey everyone, I've had my PC since Christmas 2025, and last night I plugged a USB-C drive into the wrong port (thanks to the confusing placement by AsRock). After that, my PC turned off, but it powered on again. However, while I was gaming about an hour ago, it just shut down again. Now, when I try to turn it back on, the power supply makes a hissing sound before the PC shuts off again. How do I fix this?

If you plugged the USB-C into the USB-A port, nothing should normally happen. The USB-A part is just a casing.
That hissing noise might be a failing capacitor in your power supply. You should be cautious.
Weird, the PC is pretty new (manufactured in 2024). I didn’t expect any components to fail yet.
Try turning off your power supply completely, then hit the case power button to drain any remaining power. If it still won’t boot up, you could have fried your power supply or motherboard when that USB port shorted.
I turned it off for a bit to let it discharge, but the problem persists.
This might be serious. Stop using it right away and consider replacing the power supply. A hissing sound could indicate it’s failing, and it might damage other components.
I’m worried about my CPU too. I have a 13th gen Intel, and I know they can have their own issues.
It sounds like you might have damaged the USB port, which could be causing a short. You should definitely check that USB port first—either fix it or disconnect it. Just hope this hasn't caused any permanent harm to your power supply or motherboard!
I checked that USB port when the PC was still working, and it recognized my drive just fine.
Here’s a pic of the port I’m talking about: [link to image].

True, but the casing can bridge the pins inside, which might cause issues.
