My PS5’s Internet Speed is Way Lower Than Other Devices, What’s Going On?

I recently noticed that my PS5 is running at significantly slower speeds compared to my other devices. Here's a rundown of my setup: I've got my internet router located one room away, separated by one wall. To enhance my WiFi in the room where I usually play, I have a WiFi extender installed. My PC is hardwired to this extender via an Ethernet cable, while the PS5 and my phone are both connected through WiFi.

Here are the download speeds I'm getting:
- PC: 438.05 Mbps
- Phone: 292 Mbps
- PS5: 110.9 Mbps

I've also been experiencing frequent internet drops on the PS5 and inconsistent ping times. Oddly, just a few days ago, the PS5 was performing well with speeds similar to my phone. I ran the speed test at 3-4 AM to avoid peak usage times. I know my setup isn't the best, but it was functioning fine until recently. I'm just trying to figure out why the PS5 is suddenly struggling while my other devices are not.

Honestly, I highly recommend going wired if you can. WiFi just isn’t going to give you the best latency or speed. If running a cable isn't an option, maybe consider a powerline adapter instead of the extender. I used a powerline adapter, but it slowed down significantly. You might want to check the quality of your LAN cable just in case, as that could affect your speeds too.

I had the same issue with my powerline adapter at first; turns out it was due to poor-quality cables. Checking those connections can make a big difference!

Yeah, definitely take a look at your cables. Even a small quality difference in the cables can really affect speed.

Have you tried switching the Ethernet from your PC to the PS5? When I did that, my PS5 speed jumped to around 400 Mbps. I had to keep my PC wired since it doesn’t have WiFi, but it’s worth the hassle if it boosts your PS5 performance! Just a heads up, I also understand the struggle with limited power outlets; maybe think about getting a power strip?

Definitely a good move! Grab a power strip with Ethernet switch capabilities—it can save you a lot of hassle.
