Hey everyone! My RTX 3090 just kicked the bucket, and now I'm left figuring out what to do next. I'm thinking about getting a 5070 Ti just to get my PC back up and running quickly, but that feels a bit like throwing money at essentially the same performance I've had for years. I've got a 5800X and 32GB DDR4 memory, so my setup isn't super old, but I'm definitely looking for better performance in games like Helldivers 2 and especially in VR.
I could consider upgrading to a 9800X3D along with the 5070 Ti, which would cost about double, but it would allow me to keep my current case, SSD, and power supply. Alternatively, I could just build a new machine using a cheaper card like the 3060 and sell the whole current setup. However, I think selling it as a complete unit would be easier than piecing out the motherboard, CPU, and RAM.
Lastly, I'm even toying with the idea of getting a laptop with a 5070 Ti instead, since there have been times I've wanted portability, but that brings its own challenges. What are your thoughts? Any other options I might have overlooked?

Why not start with the 5070 Ti since you're already leaning that way? Once you have it, you can reevaluate your whole setup and decide if you want to go for a bigger upgrade later.
If you're looking to save some cash, you might consider sending your 3090 off for repairs. It's still a solid card, and if the damage isn't too severe, getting it fixed could be cheaper than buying a new one. There are places like Northwest Repair that do great work for reasonable prices. Repairing could save you a bundle!
Totally agree! I’ve heard good things about Northwest. Even if it costs around $200, that could be much less than a new GPU and still keep your performance up.
If you're open to AMD, the 9070XT could be a great option! Otherwise, the 5070 Ti is solid too. Just keep an eye out for good prices on either.
Honestly, I'm surprised to hear your 3090 broke! What happened?
It just went blank while I was on Discord. I restarted, but nothing – not even the BIOS screen showed up! Tested all the connections too.
That’s a good idea! It might be the best way to assess what’s next.
