My RTX 5080 is Crashing—Black Screen and Fans at 100%! Help!

I've been having a recurring issue with my RTX 5080 where the screen suddenly goes black, the fans ramp up to 100%, and the entire PC becomes unresponsive. The only solution is a hard reboot, and this isn't a rare occurrence for me. I've already tried clean installs of three different drivers using DDU, updated the BIOS, and even replaced the PSU cables, but nothing seems to help. I'm starting to suspect that the GPU might be faulty. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possibly related to drivers?

It sounds like your GPU might not be stable at its current speeds. Have you tried using MSI Afterburner? You could set the core to -200 and memory to -400 to see if that helps. If the issue resolves, you can gradually increase those settings for better performance without crashing.

Quick question: Are the fans going to 100% just on the GPU or on the entire system? If it’s only the GPU fans, that could indicate a bad GPU. If you have a CPU with integrated graphics, you might want to hook your monitor up to the motherboard next time it crashes to check if everything else is working. I had a similar issue before, and it turned out to be a faulty GPU.

Ah, I should’ve noted that it’s just the GPU fans that max out. I do have an iGPU, so I’ll try connecting the monitor to the motherboard if it crashes again. I've had this problem since I bought the GPU—actually, it went away for a while but came back recently, especially when launching *Ghost of Tsushima*.
