I've got a PNY CS900 Series 2.5 SATA III 2TB SSD that I've been using for about a year and a half without any issues. Recently, it just vanished from my PC! I can't find it in Disk Management, Disk Part, or even the BIOS. I'm starting to think it may be dead, but I'm not sure how to confirm that. For reference, I have an older HDD that's still working fine. Here's what I've tried so far:
- Cleared dust from my internal components.
- Switched cables with my HDD to rule out cable issues; the HDD works fine with the SSD's cables.
- Checked the BIOS.
- Tried the power cycle method.
Interestingly, in Device Manager, I see three disks listed: the original SSD that came with my PC, my working HDD, and what I believe is my SSD, but it's labeled as "Unknown Disk." When I check its properties, it's blank, which makes me think the PC can't read its chip. Disk Manager prompts me to initialize it, but when I do, I get an error saying "a device which does not exist was specified." I'm really in need of help or advice here as I'm feeling quite desperate!

It sounds like your SSD might be failing. Sometimes they just go out unexpectedly. If it's being detected as 'Unknown Disk,' that's not a good sign. You might want to try some data recovery software if you have important files on it, but be aware that success isn’t guaranteed. If the SSD is completely unresponsive, it could be time to consider a replacement. Just remember to keep backups in the future to avoid losing important data!
From what you’ve described, your SSD likely has a hardware issue. Since the BIOS doesn't recognize it correctly, it might be dead. I'd suggest checking if it's still under warranty; you could get a replacement if it is. If you have crucial data on it, professional data recovery services can be expensive but might save your files if it's really important.
Thanks for the advice! I didn’t even think about checking the warranty. I'll do that!

What data recovery software do you recommend? I've heard some can actually work miracles.
