I recently had a family gathering, and I let my 9-year-old cousin play on my PC. He asked if he could download a cheat that his friends were using, and I naively said yes. After the event, around 4 AM, I got a bunch of emails about a security threat to my Gmail account, and then I found out my Steam account had been hacked – they changed my password and logged me out. I've already contacted Steam support and changed passwords for all my other accounts. I've lost about $500 worth of games. Is there anything else I should do?

You might want to consider reinstalling Windows using a USB stick. It can help eliminate any lingering threats, but make sure to back up your important files first to avoid losing anything!
Give Steam support some time to respond; they usually have a team that handles these sorts of issues. Just be patient for now!
You should definitely contact the authorities and report the hack. It’s also a good idea to enable two-factor authentication on your Steam account, if possible. Make sure you change your Gmail password as soon as you can. And about the kid, maybe just give him a little teasing for messing with your setup – but in a fun way, of course!

Is reinstalling really necessary? I have a lot of files on my PC. I did find an old notepad with my Steam username and password, but I'm still confused about how they got into my email.
