I recently bought a used iPhone 8 on eBay, and the seller assured me it was unlocked. After confirming with Verizon, they confirmed it is indeed unlocked. However, when I put my SIM card in, it shows signal bars and Verizon's name in settings, but I can't actually make calls or use the internet. The seller seemed unsure about the issue but offered a refund, which is nice, but I really want to fix it instead of returning it. I tried to activate it using the Verizon app but kept getting an error. I'm transitioning from my iPhone XR because I prefer older models and mine is pretty beat up. Any advice on how to make this iPhone 8 work with my SIM?

It sounds like you might be running into a provisioning issue with Verizon when switching phones. It's a good idea to make sure they know you're downgrading. Have you called them yet or thought about visiting a store to see if you need a new SIM card? Sometimes just getting a new SIM can resolve these kinds of issues.

I did call Verizon and mentioned the downgrade, but I'm thinking about checking in-store to see if a new SIM is needed.
