My USB 3.0 Isn’t Recognizing My External SSD, What Should I Do?

I just bought a Samsung T7 1TB external SSD, and I initially connected it to a USB 3.0 Gen 1 port. It didn't work at first, but then I tried a different port and it was fine. However, while downloading a game on Steam, I encountered a bug that made me force close my PC. Now, when I rebooted, the external SSD is not showing up anymore. It lights up and gets power, but my computer doesn't recognize it. I've tested the SSD on another computer and it works there and also in USB 2.0 slots. Meanwhile, my USB 3.0 ports are functioning normally with all my other devices. I'm really stumped here. I've even tinkered with the power settings without any luck. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Using external SSDs over USB for gaming isn't the best choice. Ideally, you should stick with internal NVMe or SATA SSDs since USB isn't designed for the low latency access that games need.

Have you tried assigning a drive letter to the SSD? Sometimes USB drives can get lost in the system and need a drive letter to show up, especially on USB 3.0 connections.
