My Wacom Tablet Stops Working Randomly on Linux – Any Fixes?

I've been using a Wacom Intuos Pro drawing tablet on Mint 22.2, and I've noticed that it sometimes stops tracking the pen movement. The eraser end of the pen still works, but I can't get the main pen to function again without unplugging and replugging the tablet. This usually helps for a couple of seconds at most before the issue returns, forcing me to repeat the process several times. I'm using the driver that was automatically installed with the OS. My setup includes a B460M DS3H AC V2-Y1 motherboard, Intel i5-10400F processor, NVIDIA GeForce 3060 graphics card, and 16GB of RAM. Has anyone experienced something similar, and do you have any solutions?

It sounds like you're having a frustrating time! I've read that there can be issues with tablets and certain applications on Linux, especially with Krita. Since you've mentioned the tablet disconnects, it might be worth checking out the input-wacom GitHub page for the latest drivers and solutions. Sometimes a driver update can make all the difference!

Does your stylus have a battery? If it did, I’d suggest checking the connections, but since you mentioned it doesn’t, it could just be a contact issue within the pen itself. Have you tried using a different program to see if the problem persists outside of Krita?

There are some known compatibility issues with Krita and tablets on Wayland. If you're using the Flatpak version, that’s generally more reliable than the distro versions. Krita recommends their AppImage for the best stability across all Linux distros, so it might be a good idea to give that a shot! Also, check if the disconnects only happen in Krita or other apps too, as that can help in diagnosing the problem.
