Navigating Early Career Choices in Tech: Seeking Advice

I'm a May 2024 Computer Science grad trying to find my way in the job market. After a year-long internship as a backend developer focusing on Java and Spring Boot, I've been struggling to land interviews, despite having hands-on experience. I've recently earned a couple of AWS associate-level certifications, which boosted my confidence, and I'm planning to work on practical projects to improve my backend and cloud skills. However, I'm feeling a bit lost and have several questions:

- Should I focus more on backend development with Spring Boot or shift towards cloud roles like DevOps or Cloud Engineer?
- How important is AWS knowledge when I don't have a portfolio of cloud-native projects yet?
- What types of projects would effectively showcase my skills to potential employers?
- Is aiming for AI-related roles realistic at this stage, or should I solidify my footing in software and cloud engineering first?
- For those who have experienced this transition, how did you stay motivated and know you were on the right track?

I'm trying to make intentional decisions for long-term growth rather than just following trends. Any advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

You're on the right track! Keep building projects that integrate both backend and cloud elements; that will really boost your profile. As for AI, that's something you can dive into later once you have solid foundations in development and cloud. Just keep pushing yourself, you’ve got this!

I feel you on the impostor syndrome! It's normal after graduating. For Leetcode, I think it's great for improving coding skills, especially if you're from a development background. Thanks for sharing!
