Hey everyone! I need some advice regarding a situation with a GPU I sold on eBay a week ago. I sold my 2070, and since then, the buyer has messaged me saying they've been stress-testing it while playing games like WarZone and Cyberpunk. They claim it's been consistently hitting 88-89 degrees Celsius.
Before I shipped it, I tested the GPU using Heaven Benchmark and it performed well. I didn't specifically check the temperatures, since I never had issues during regular gaming. I know that 89 degrees is technically within Nvidia's safe operating range, though it's pretty close to the limit. I'm unsure how to respond to the buyer. Should I ask for a return and refund? Or should I remind them that it's an older used GPU and the temperatures are within range? What do you all think? Thanks for any guidance!

I'd say just stick to your guns. It's a used GPU; they're getting what they paid for. If they act unreasonable, it might just be buyer's remorse. You could even remind them that it's not a brand-new product!
I think you should just let them know that the temperatures are actually within spec for an older used GPU. It sounds like they were expecting too much considering it's a 2070 and they’re running it on newer games. The card was working fine for you, so you shouldn’t feel pressured to offer a refund. Just be straightforward with them!
Yeah, exactly! They should probably consider repasting it too. That’s a common fix for older GPUs that can help with temps.
You’re good, 89 degrees is manageable for that card. It might not be the card's fault—could be their airflow or case setup. Maybe suggest they check that and repaste if needed!
Exactly! A lot of factors like case cooling can influence temps, so it’s not solely on you as the seller.
Honestly, I wouldn't offer a refund just yet. Those temps aren’t alarming, especially for stress tests. If they want a return, make sure they ship it back first. You don’t want them pulling a fast one on you!
Definitely! Always require the buyer to return the item before any refunds. Don’t fall for the scam where they just want to keep the GPU and get their money back.
If they keep pushing for a return, just make sure you check the serial number when they send it back. You don’t want to get a different card returned to you. Honestly, the buyer needs to understand the implications of buying used hardware.
Good point! I’ll definitely verify the serial number before doing any refunds.
Right? You sold a fully functioning GPU, it’s on them to manage their setup.
