Hey everyone, I've got an interview coming up for a DevOps Engineer position, focusing on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKS). I have one year of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), but my current job has been purely on-premises, so I lack hands-on cloud experience. I'm feeling a bit lost on how to prepare. Should I be upfront about my lack of practical experience with cloud tools, even though I understand the concepts? Should I try to get some hands-on practice with GCP and GKS, despite having only a week to prepare? If anyone has transitioned from on-prem to cloud, I'd love to hear how you approached it. Any relevant study material recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I faced a similar situation when I interviewed for an on-prem position with only a bit of cloud experience. I was honest about my background, explaining that while I didn't have hands-on experience with their specific stack, I had been learning a lot on the job and my skills were transferable. It's great to do some research on the stack beforehand so you can discuss it intelligently. You should definitely familiarize yourself with the basics of Google Cloud to prepare for questions. They'll appreciate your honesty more than if you try to oversell your experience.

Wow, so you're saying this approach still works? I thought it was really outdated!
