Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot and hope someone can help. My younger brother sadly passed away in March at just 25 years old. He wasn't a big collector of things but spent a lot of time on his HP laptop playing games like World of Warcraft. I was hoping to recover some of his photos and connect with his gaming friends to let them know what happened. Unfortunately, his laptop is locked with a Windows account and a PIN, and BitLocker is enabled. We don't have the recovery key, and each attempt to guess the PIN is locking us out. I'm really hoping there's a way to get into his laptop and access his memories. Does anyone have suggestions?

You might want to try reaching out to Microsoft support. They may have a way to help you recover access if you can provide proof of ownership and your brother's details.
If you're considering more drastic measures, there are some pretty technical ways to go about it. You could pull out the hard drive and connect it as an external drive to another PC, but keep in mind that the BitLocker encryption will make things complicated. Make sure to do some research before you take this route.
Just keep in mind that without the BitLocker key or the PIN, it’s really tricky to access the drive. If you suspect he had a Microsoft account linked to this laptop, definitely try recovering that account. You never know what data you might be able to access,
Honestly, your best bet might be to find a local tech expert. They'll have the tools to help extract the data, especially if you explain your situation. If that feels like too much, there are safer ways to approach it. Like, check out the possibility of getting into the Windows account if you know any possible passwords or if he used a Microsoft account that you can recover.
I understand this is tough, but approaching a certified professional might be the most hassle-free way. Just ensure you have proof of your brother's passing ready to show them, and offer fair compensation for their service.
