Hey everyone! I'm looking to build my first gaming PC and could really use some advice. My budget is around £1200, and I'm aiming for a machine that can handle modern games well, particularly for developing with Unreal Engine and such. I'd love any tips on components or a complete build if you have suggestions! While I'm okay with pre-built systems, I've noticed they can be overpriced. Just to clarify, while the Unreal Engine performance is important, stability is my main concern. Ideally, I'm looking for a setup with 16-32GB of RAM, at least 12GB of VRAM, and 1TB of SSD storage. Thanks in advance!

It might be tough to get everything you want within that budget. Building a PC capable of running Unreal Engine can be done, but if you're working on larger projects, you might face crashes or significant lag. A second-hand older generation PC could be a better option. Look for something with at least 64GB of RAM eventually, an 8-core CPU, and aim for a GPU with the highest VRAM you can find. Trust me, 8GB of VRAM is pretty limited for UE5!
For what it's worth, I run UE5 with 4GB VRAM and 16GB RAM. It's not ideal, but it works, so any upgrade would definitely help!
When you say you want it to run "really well," can you specify what that means for you? Like what resolution are you aiming for, and do you need ray tracing or not?
I’m generally aiming for 1440p resolution, and ray tracing would be a nice bonus, but I'm not too picky. Ideally, I'm looking to support 32GB of RAM and 12GB VRAM or more if my budget allows.

That's fine by me! As a level designer, my spaces are usually pretty simple. My main goal is around 32GB of RAM.
