Need Help Choosing a GPU for 1440p Gaming on a Budget

Hey everyone! I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm diving into building my first gaming PC. I've done some research and have a list of parts lined up, but I'm really stuck on picking a graphics card. I don't have much experience with PC building — the last PC I used was built by my brother six years ago.

I want a reliable GPU that can handle 1440p gaming without breaking the bank (my budget is 1,200 AUD). I don't play competitive games; I mostly enjoy single-player experiences like Slime Rancher, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us, and Until Dawn. So, I'm looking for something that prioritizes smooth visuals over crazy FPS.

Here are my current specs just for context:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- Motherboard: MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi
- Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL36
- SSD: Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD
- PSU: Lian Li 850W power supply
- Case: Lian Li O11 Vision compact case

Any recommendations for a GPU that fits my needs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’d recommend looking at either the 5070 Ti or the 9070 XT, depending on local pricing. If prices are similar, the 5070 Ti is an awesome choice for 1440p gaming. Just keep in mind that some models can be quite pricey, going up to $1500 AUD, so definitely shop around!

Yeah, both are over your budget in Australia. I’ve seen the cheapest 5070 Ti at around $1469. It might be hard to find something within your range.

I recently got a prebuilt with a 5060 Ti for 1440p gaming, and it worked great. Only paid around 1857 AUD for the whole setup, and it runs games like RDR2 smoothly!

A second-hand 2080 could be another option. You can find it around $300 AUD, and it will perform well for your needs. If you can stretch your budget a bit, a 3080 might be worth considering for a quality leap.

Yeah, with a bit more invested in a 3080, you could really enhance your gaming experience—especially for titles with stunning graphics.

Definitely check places like Cex for second-hand parts; they offer good warranties.

If you're looking for alternatives, the 4070 Super or the 4070 Ti are great choices for single-player games with good visuals. They should definitely meet your 1440p needs, but you’ll want to verify pricing as it can vary widely.

Good call on the Super series; they really hold up well in terms of performance and price.

Totally, just make sure your PSU can handle them. It sounds like you've got a solid build already!

You might want to check out the 9070. It’s a solid card for 1440p and performs quite well. Plus, it's around 1050 AUD, so it could fit into your pricing range. If you don’t mind making a few adjustments, the RX 6750 XT is also a decent mid-tier option that won’t break the bank.

CasualGamer93 -

Yeah, exactly. The RX 6750 XT can handle high settings on many games and is more affordable. If you get it on sale, you might save a lot!
