Need Help Choosing a GPU for My First PC Build

I'm diving into the world of PC gaming after a lifetime with consoles! I recently played on my friend's PC and got hooked. Now, I'm gearing up to build my own rig but I'm stuck on selecting a good GPU. My budget is around $1000 for the entire build. I keep hearing mixed reviews about GPUs. For example, I've looked at options like the 3050 6GB, but it's pretty pricey at around $350 CAD and I'm worried it won't hold up past 2025. I know I can upgrade later, but that could mean swapping out my CPU and motherboard as well, which adds more costs. I've watched some videos comparing GPUs and while I see the differences in FPS and temperatures, visually they don't seem that different to me. So I'm wondering, would a lower-rated GPU like the 3050 really be that bad? How long can I realistically expect to play newer games before I need an upgrade?

Stick to saving your cash! You don’t have to buy everything at once. It’s better to focus on getting a good GPU, like a 5070 Ti or a 9700 XT, and build up your rig piece by piece.

Honestly, a solid performance build for around $500 can run most games at 1440p with decent settings. If your budget is $1000, check out some YouTube builds from trusted creators like Zach. They often have great recommendations and you might get more for your money than you think!

You don’t have to change your CPU and motherboard just to upgrade your GPU! That’s a common misconception. Plus, the second-hand market is pretty vibrant right now; you could find something great and affordable there.

For your price range, consider looking at used GPUs on sites like eBay. You might score an RTX 2070 or 2080 for around $350 CAD, which would outperform the 3050 6GB by a good margin.
