Hey folks, I hope you can help me out a bit! My brain is totally fried after working crazy hours running my donut shop, and I want to give my gaming PC a much-needed upgrade. Right now, my setup is: a Fractal North XL case, an NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti that's been amazing, an MSI Z270 motherboard, a 750W power supply, an Intel i7 7700K CPU, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 4TB M.2 SSD plus a 2TB regular SSD. While it worked fine for a while, it's starting to show its age and struggle with newer games.
I've been hearing mixed things about whether I should stick with Intel and NVIDIA or maybe switch to AMD since they're gaining popularity. Should I also look into a new motherboard that supports DDR5 and upgrade my RAM as well? I think my current 750W power supply should handle some upgrades, but I could use more recommendations. Any thoughts or advice on what parts I should focus on replacing? Thanks so much for helping out an exhausted gamer like me!

First off, it sounds like your entire setup could use an overhaul, especially considering its age. It might be time to rethink the whole build rather than just upgrading parts. If gaming is your main focus, I'd recommend looking at Ryzen CPUs like the 7600 or 7600X for better performance. As for the GPU, it really depends on your budget—any current-gen GPU you can get your hands on would be a solid upgrade over the 1080 Ti. Intel's newer offerings are good, but for gaming, AMD seems to be the better route right now unless you find a great deal on an Intel CPU. Also, definitely consider a new motherboard to support DDR5; it will future-proof your build!
I’d agree that switching to Ryzen might be best. That way, you won't be stuck with the older tech, and the performance gains in gaming are noticeable!
