Need Help Formatting My Toshiba External Hard Drive

I'm having trouble formatting my Toshiba External USB 3.0 Mobile Hard Drive. I've followed the online steps involving Diskpart but keep getting an error message that states, "Diskpart has encountered an error: A device does not exist was specified." The drive tends to disconnect when I reach the format step, and I've attempted both NTFS quick and exFAT formats. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

It sounds like there might be a hardware issue somewhere along the line, whether it's with the drive itself, the cable, or the USB port you're using. Have you tried plugging it into a different port on your computer? That sometimes helps.

I did change the port already, and there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the cable either.

After creating the partition, you might want to try formatting the drive using Disk Management instead. Many people prefer quick exFAT formats for external drives. If that doesn't work, the hard drive could be physically damaged, especially if it's been moved around a lot. As a last resort, you can try using a bootable Linux utility like GParted for formatting. If nothing works, there may be a serious issue with the hard drive.

Thanks a lot! I'll give that a shot later. All this technical stuff is a bit confusing for me, but I'm learning! I really appreciate your help!
